Always remember, even if you were to start completely over, you will never forget the past nor should you. The past is a part of your experience and you can use it to learn and grow. You may not like it but depending on how you react to it will help form your character and help shape the type of person you become and the places you end up. So with that said, let me give you my last tip on starting over.

3. Show the list you made to someone who is trustworthy and inspirational. This could be a teacher, a parent, a friend or your guidance counselor. Show them the list and tell them to keep you accountable to what you wrote there. This way you aren’t focusing on changing alone but are having others help you and motivate you to do the things you wrote there. This is extremely helpful because if you become discouraged or don’t have the strength to do it there will be someone there to push you forward and help you succeed.

However, life doesn’t work that way does it? You have no idea how things are going to turn out before you get into them and when they go pear shape you have no way to fix it. All you can do is try your best to deal with it until the wounds heal.

Its the same in HS. You are in your first, second, or third year (doesn’t really matter) and everyone knows you as ‘the loser, geek, ugly person’ etc…

You wish you could just go back in time and start over again! Make different choices that will have everyone see you as a great person to be around etc…

But then you realize life is not a video game. You cant go back. You cant start over. You are stuck where you are.

Some ppl get lucky. They get to switch schools and start over again (like The New Guy). But not you. For some reason you are not as lucky.

So what do you do? Do you just accept the fact that HS sucks and there’s no way around it? That all you have to do is deal with it until it passes and hope life is better after-wards? Is that how you are meant to live the next three/four years of your life?

Well I have good news for you and its wrapped up in two letter word.

Allow me to give you some tips on starting over that may help. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to write about it in too much detail here. Now today I’m going to give you two tips. Then tomorrow Ill give you the last one. Are you ready? Here we go…

1. Evaluate everything in your life that makes you want to start over. Is it  relationship? A class? A sport? Your health? Write a list down in a notebook and next to it write down exactly what you want it to be. For example if its a class you are failing write down. Failing Spanish class on one side. On the other side write down what the opposite of that is. Which in this case is extremely obvious: Pass Spanish Class. Once you have done that with everything in your list then go to step 2.

2. Write out a simple plan. For example if you are failing Spanish class and you want to pass then you need a plan. Ask yourself: Why am I failing? (is the teacher boring? The material to complicated? or are you just too lazy to do the homework?) Once you have identified the problems then work on the solutions. For example lets say you are failing because its too hard, maybe the solution can be find someone in class who thinks its easy an ask them for help. Write it down. Once you have a problem, and solution for everything in your list the last thing you need to do is write down a date next to each of them. For example if its January 1 the day you make the list then next to your solution for Spanish class it should have January 5th.

It should look something like this:

Problem-Solution-Date-Result

Or if you prefer an actual example. Something like this:

Failing Spanish-Ask Pedro for help-Jan 5-Pass Spanish Class

This is a great way to do it because you identify the problem you write the solution next to it and then next to that you write the date that you are going to do it and next to the date you write what you want the end result to be. Here is another example:

I’m a loner-Make 2 new friends-Jan 15-No longer a loner

You can make the list as long as you want and you can add more detail if you want too. What I just showed you is the simplest way to do it but you can do more if you want And tomorrow I’ll share with you the last tip.

If you guys have ever seen ‘The New Guy’ then you know exactly what I am talking about. Its a story about a teen in hs who’s a total loser. So what does he do? He goes to jail to get toughened up by a bunch of criminals then changes to a new high school where he is the coolest thing that ever hit the block.

Apart fromt the fact that its hollywood, how many of you would jump for a chance to start over in high school? How many would do anything to walk through the halls and not be seen as the loser, loner, geek, weakling, gossip, etc… How many would like to walk down the halls and instead of ppl making fun, have them say hello instead, smile, or wave at least! Let me let you in on a little secret (even the anti socials secretly wish they had more friends)

Why? Because that’s how we are! Regardless of what you believe, be it religion, atheism, or just plain nothing you cannot deny that a life without love is lame and empty. We all need and want friends! Unfortunately for some of us, it seems our only hope of having friends is to start over from scratch. But don’t get discouraged! You may not be able to go to prison and have a bunch of thugs teach you how to “be cool” but you can still start over.

Now being from Australia there is no Freshman Friday, so I I had to interview my hubby who’s from New Jersey. Below is the interview with some tips. Enjoy!

C: OK Marcos, today I want to talk about Freshman Friday. First of all, what is it?

M: Yeah…its sort of a big myth really, though it does happen in some schools its not really that bad. It’s meant to be this day where the seniors and juniors play pranks on the freshmen and stuff. You know like stuff em in lockers, push em down the stairs, steal their book bags etc…but like I said its pretty rare.

C: So did you ever go through it?

M: No not really. I remember as a junior I still looked really young though and two guys tried to jump me on Freshman Friday because they thought I was a freshman, but nothing came of it. I have heard stories about it happening though and most of the time it happens to freshman who try to act up.

C: So what advice would you give to a freshman just going into HS that may be worried about Freshman Friday or just that whole first year period?

M: Good luck

C: Seriously…

M: Ok fine, lol. First thing I would say is  if you are going to stand out make a good impression. If you are not going to make a good impression then try not to stand out. Those that stand out in a bad way are usually the targets for pranks and stuff. Everything else is pretty much common sense. Now like I said its not that big a deal, but if you are really worried about the big FF then don’t wander around alone, go home when everyone else does so that you are surrounded by ppl, hang around with friends etc…but trust me, you’ll be OK.

C: Anything else?

M: Well I think if they read the blogs you’ve posted here they will learn tons of tips for just about everything in HS whether they are freshmen or not. Things like joining after school clubs or sports to make friends or being kind to ppl are always a plus.

C: Is there anything else you want to say to the HS students today?

M: I just want to remind them that HS can be the most awesome time of their lives if they allow it to be. It can also be the worst. So the choice is theirs, Awesome Time or Crappy Time. Choose wisely. Also remember that even if you do everything right you still might not end up with what you want. That’s OK. We don’t always get what we want but don’t let it discourage you or make you turn your back on good things. People who succeed in life are people who fail and learn from their failures. People who don’t succeed are people who are too afraid to fail and when they do, they give up. So get out there, do your best, fail a couple hundred times and keep on going.

So anyways here it goes. I call this my 10 Things I “Love” About High School List…

• Bullying
• Peer Pressure
• Popularity Contest
• Gossip
• Fake ppl
• Relationship Drama
• Back Stabbing
• Getting a Date
• Making sure nobody steals my date
• Selling myself out while trying to impress a bunch of ppl who don’t even like me

WOW! That’s some list huh? Well let me tell all of you a little secret that most teens either don’t know, or don’t know they know. Ready?? Here goes: None of these things end after high School.

That’s right guys! Now don’t get me wrong. Some ppl finish HS and the drama seems to fade away as well, but not all the time. Ive known adults that still cry about their HS experiences, the thought of a HS reunion freaks them out! Not only that but that list you see up there is the same exact list in college, the military, and yes even your career! (Unless you work all by your lonesome)

Take it from me. I’m out of HS and I still have to deal with all of the above. But because I have learned and applied the 7 principles in How to Survive High School, none of them get to me anymore. As a matter of fact when you do you wont even notice those things anymore! Really!

Well I’m not going to rant on for too long today because I have actually written a short book about that lovely list I have up there. Just got to my site to check it out!

Because I was a little chubby I had a low self‐esteem, which made me shy and moody. So I must have been such a great person to approach and make friends with hey? No! Then I was put in classes I did not like. They were all the compulsory subjects so I had no way of getting out of them. Not even my best excuses could get me out of these ones, and I was so good at making excuses too! None of my friends were in any of my classes so that meant I had to make new friends, which I did… and to this day a couple of them are still very close friends of mine.

After a few days I became familiar with the groups everyone decided to make. You know the “popular group”, “the nerd group”, “the just plain weird group”, “the sports/swimmers group”, and then there were those who would get along with just about everyone. All throughout high school these same groups remained. The same people, the same stories, each group with their own fashion statement, same conversations; it never changed. But that is high school!

Each year got better in different ways for me. I managed to make heaps of friends, I learned new skills, I learned more and more about myself and other people, I started to lose weight which meant I was accepted more and I felt more comfortable. I was more approachable. I had dreams; I created goals I wanted to achieve, so things just slowly fell into place for me.

The only part of high school I did not like was the homework of course, doing subjects I did not like, the fights between friends, the missing out on boyfriends, really just the same continuous drama!

I don’t know if your experience has been anything like this but for lots of ppl HS is the best time of their lives. For many others, the worst. I’ve met adults that still whine and complain about what so and so did in 11th grade. Yeah I know…it’s silly, but true.

So my question is this. If you don’t really have a choice but to go to HS then why don’t you learn how to turn those dreaded years into the best years of your life? Think about it…

Its Candice here again. Woke up this morning and decided maybe it would be awesome if I shared a bit more about what I discovered. Like I said yesterday, my high school experience was awful! And you know what? I spent all my time thinking that if the other girls weren’t so snobby and the guys so fake that maybe I could enjoy HS more.

Chances are if you are having a rough time in HS or are about to go to HS then you spend a lot of time thinking, and if you are anything like me…ALL your thinking is Negative (capital N)

Now I want to share with you the first thing I discovered when I began to think back on all my years of HS. It may even annoy you a bit because its so cheesy! But no matter how cheesy it is one thing I had to realize is that it was true.

Yep…Cheesy and True…

“A Positive Mindset”

Ha! I told you! It’s corny isn’t it? Maybe even a bit cliche but the truth is that this is
single-handedly the most important aspect of Surviving High School – PERIOD.

In Chapter one of How to Survive High School you will see that everything that is in your life, your personality, your friends, your actions, the way you react to certain things, or even fun, it’s all “YOUR CHOICE”. You will discover how to achieve a Positive Mindset, and Healthy Emotions.

Why is this important? Because without a Positive Mindset you will never be able to overcome the Negative things that happen in your life during and even after High School.

I said it yesterday and Ill say it again. HS is full of drama! Every day you are reminded that its the most important part of your life. “You have to get good grades, you have to pass your exams, you have to do your assignments, and so on and so forth…

But what most parents and teachers fail to realize is that along with all this pressure there is also the constant struggle to fit in, to be accepted, to be liked and appreciated. As a matter of fact in HS there are more things working against your success than there are for you. Well not anymore! I’m going to work with you and teach you everything you need to know to make sure you have the tools to succeed.

You owe it to yourself to become all you are meant to be.

Don’t sell yourself short, your life is way too precious.

How to Survive High School Author Candice Torres

Lets face it. High School is full of drama! Every day you are reminded that HS is the most important part of your life. You have to get good grades, you have to pass your exams, you have to do your assignments, you have to because if you don’t you’ll be a bum for the rest of your life. Failure is not an option! Blah, Blah, Blah

With all this going on many of us are crying out for some advice. We go to this site and learn a little there, then we go to that site and learn other stuff. Then we take advice from this guy who says the same thing everyone else says, and we take advice from that lady who contradicts the other lady. Then we ask our mum, but she doesn’t know! When she was a kid the biggest problem in school was chewing gum! Now we have drugs and violence to deal with! Where to go? Well let me tell you a little bit about my HS experience.

High School was really terrifying for me. No matter how many days weeks and months passed by, as soon as my mum dropped me off outside the school gate each morning, I was nervous, I felt sick, and was begging to go back home! Each day I had to face the pressure of trying to fit in and be accepted. Many times I felt I had to be somebody that I wasn’t and do what everybody else wanted me to do. This pressure made it hard to focus in all my classes. School work was the last thing I wanted to do, as I was already busy enough trying to maintain an acceptable image to others.

At the age of 18 I finally made a decision that forever changed my life. With a low self-esteem, self-doubt, and failing goals and dreams; I realized I could no longer live life being defeated, let down by myself and others, and surrounding myself with people who only encouraged misery, failure and disbelief. I began to do massive amounts of study on why I thought, felt, and acted the way I did.

One day while I was reading the notes I made about what I had discovered, I thought to myself how wonderful it would have been to know all of these amazing techniques in High School. It would have made high school so much easier. I would have had an absolute blast, and would have had goals and dreams and many other opportunities to strive for, than to worry about peer pressure, trying to fit in, and all the hassles and drama that high school brings.

So you know what I did? I decided that keeping this to myself would be wayy to greedy. So I took what I learned and decided to write a Guide for High School students. Yep! That’s right! Its called “How to Survive High School”
